Throughout the entire school year, we continually prepare students for middle school. We want them to be confident going into 6th grade and be successful from the beginning. Some things done in my classroom to help prepare:
Tough love letting students fail is the best way to teach them independence, perseverance, and success
Independence Example: After a few weeks of modeling how to write in assignment notebooks, students will be expected to do it on their own
Responsibility Example: If a student makes a poor decision at school that requires parent contact, the student will write a note to the parent explaining their viewpoint of what happened, without teacher intervention (I will send an email objectively explaining the situation, if necessary). The note will need to be signed and returned to school.
